In 1985, Bill moved to Los Angeles, California where he attended Pepperdine University School of Law. Bill graduated from Pepperdine University in 1988, at the age of 22, the youngest member of his graduating class.

Bill was recruited out of law school by Robert S. Kaufman of Fain, Kaufman and Young, a prominent family law firm in Beverly Hills. After 6-1/2 years at Fain, Kaufman and Young, where he built a reputation as an outstanding family law associate, Bill joined another prominent family law firm in Los Angeles, Kolodny & Anteau. Bill worked for Kolodny & Anteau for 4 years, building a reputation as a respected family law trial lawyer. While working at Fain, Kaufman and Young, and Kolodny & Anteau, Bill represented numerous famous celebrities, sports athletes and high asset/profile clients. In 1998, Bill started his own family law practice, Law Offices of William P. Glavin, a professional corporation. In 2000, Bill joined with Peter to form Hermes & Glavin, LLP in Century City. In 2010, Bill, along with his associates, relocated his practice to El Segundo once again under the name of Law Offices of William P. Glavin.

Over the past 3 decades, Bill has established California precedent in the areas of child support, spousal support, severance pay and complex tracings. From 1994 to 1996, Bill was co-legal counsel in the trial and lead counsel in the appellate matter involving the landmark decision McGinley v. Herman, (1996) 50 Cal.App.4th 936; 57 Cal.Rptr. 2d 921. The case addressed issues regarding payment of child support by an extraordinarily high wage earner and the Court’s ability to deviate from the California State child support guidelines. In 2011, Bill’s firm represented Richard Samson in a successful appeal regarding allocation of severance pay for purposes of determining spousal support (2011) 197 Cal.App.4th 23. In 2019, Bill represented Joseph Ciprari at trial which resulted in a reaffirmation on appeal of a complex tracing issue which resulted in millions of $ being characterized as Mr. Ciprari’s separate property (2019) 32 Cal.App.5th 83.

In 2000, Bill was certified by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization as a Family Law Specialist. As a Certified Family Law Specialist, Bill has demonstrated proficiency in the field of family law by handling complex family law matters in the areas of custody, support, division and valuation of businesses and property, etc. Bill was selected to be included in the Who’s Who in American Law, 2000-2001 (11th Ed.), and Who’s Who of Executives and Professionals, 2004.

In 2006, Bill was honored by his peers as one of the top Southern California Family Law “Super Lawyers” as featured in Los Angeles Magazine. This honor is bestowed upon the top 5% of practicing attorneys in Southern California.

Bill has participated in a number of television and radio programs, and has written a number of articles regarding family law related issues including grandparent visitation rights, false accusations of sexual abuse in custody cases, celebrity divorces, the valuation of celebrity reputation (i.e., goodwill), and deviations from guideline child support. Bill is a legal advisor to the national organization, “Grandparents as Parents,” has been a long-standing mediator in the Los Angeles Superior Court Volunteer Mediation program, is a member of the Beverly Hills, Los Angeles County and Riverside Bar Associations, and is a member and past-President of the Manhattan Beach Kiwanis Club.
